BALTIMORE & OHIO RAILROAD MUSEUM
Steam Power
Explore the museum's historic one-of-a-kind steam engine collection. Entertaining and educational programs will highlight the steam era dating between 1830 & 1947. Learn about the Tom Thumb, the first American built steam engine; the William Mason, the oldest operating steam engine; the 1604, one of the largest & most powerful steam engines ever built; and the restoration of the Memnon, the oldest existing freight engine built in 1848. ArtBlast: Big and Small & Family Workshops
Explore art big and small at the 3rd Annual ArtBlast, a fun-filled day of performances, art-making and gallery activities for all ages! From the larger-than-life lions that greet you at the BMA’s front steps to hand-crafted miniature rooms, at ArtBlast, art comes in all shapes and sizes. Investigate strange, playful and simply gigantic works in this fall’s special exhibition Franz West, To Build a House You Start with the Roof, then head into the studio to make your own supersized sculpture. BALTIMORE MUSEUM OF INDUSTRY
Print for All
lThrough demonstrations, drop-in activities and an interactive workshop, museum programs will explore the creative and artistic side of printing, as well as provide an historical context for developments in the printing industry. Informational museum tours throughout the weekend.
Sat Oct 4 10am – 4pm Trained professionals demonstrate the museum’s 19th century printing presses, its Acorn Press, Linotype Machine and Chandler Press. Children will learn how to use a 19th Century letter press to print their own souvenir label, inspired by labels once printed in the Platt Oyster Cannery building, home of the BMI.
Sun Oct 5 11am – 4pm 11am Family-Friendly Hands-on Workshop and Printing Demonstration on silk screening, linoleum and/or wood block printing. Participants will decorate their own t-shirts. Reservations for the workshop must be made by phone 410-727-4808 x132 or by contacting the museum’s Visitor Services Assistant at gmorris@thebmi.org Label printing activity and guided tours also available throughout the day.

Paul Rand: Modernist Design in Context
A lecture on the internationally recognized designer’s life and work by Chris Pullman, vice president for Visual Communications, WGBH Television, Boston. A panel discussion will follow offering reflections on Rand’s personal vision and his immense impact on the world of twentieth century design. Panelists include: Steven Heller, senior art director, The New York Times and author of Paul Rand; Franc Nunoo Quarcoo, author of Paul Rand: Modernist Design and curator of Paul Rand: Modernist Design in Context; Gerald Gross, editor and president of Gerald Gross Associates, LLC; and Adam Gross, partner with Ayers, Saints, Gross Architects. The program is being sponsored in partnership with AIA Baltimore.

Storytelling Exhibition and Workshop
Kianga Ford: My Life in Fiction The Contemporary Museum presents a solo exhibition by Boston-based artist Kianga Ford, whose engaging and participatory works merge sound, theatre and customs of storytelling to create artworks that actively involve the audience in temporal, site-specific experiences. Here her work will immerse visitors in a new fiction about the neighborhood surrounding the museum. Wed – Sun noon – 5pm throughout Oct
